| | The administrator has disabled public write access. Widescreen settings for BF2
EA, in their infinite wisdom, neglected to auto-adjust to new widescreen monitor settings. For those unsuspecting, yet eager techno-junkies who got a widescreen for Christmas there is a way around EA's lack of vision.
The best symptoms of this BUG is that #1 you have a widescreen monitor and #2 BF2 starts to load, goes black then crashes to desktop.
STEP 1 Modify your desktop shortcuts by right-clicking on it then selecting Properties. Your icon Target should look like the following (your widescreen resolution may differ):
BF2 "C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900
POE "C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900 +modPath mods/poe2 +ignoreAsserts 1
STEP 2 Modify your BF2 config files found in your profiles in "C:Documents and SettingsYOUR USERNAMEMy DocumentsBattlefield 2ProfilesDefaultVideo.con". Also, update all other profile directories like 0001, 0002, etc. I didn't need to change the resolution but the Refresh Rate MUST MATCH your monitor capabilities. You might also notice that there are several other video quality settings which can only be turned up to "3" in the game console. By editing the .con file directly, these can be set to "4" for "very high" video quality.
*Make a copy of your Video.con file before making changes! Like "Copy of Video.con".
Original VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@72Hz
Modified VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@60Hz
*Rememeber to edit the Video.con file in EVERY profile directory including "Default".
STEP 3 odify your BF2 config file found in your profiles in "C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2ProfilesLocalDefaultVideo.con"
Original game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 32 0
Modified game.setGameDisplayMode 1440 900 32 0
PROCESS COMPLETE!
Happy Hunting!
